Milton Jones - Warming Us Up

Ahead of his 2013 tour, Milton Jones ventured down into Canterbury on a cold, January night. He came came and warmed us all up with his one liners, testing which ones worked, and which did not. Turns out, they mostly all had the audience laughing hard.

Milton Jones' Grandfather (I think it's just Milton Jones dressed up however) came out first and warmed up for the warm up for Milton's warm up show. He came onto the stage in an usual manner, but it shows an increase in his profits as it was more adventurous than pushing a trolley on like like he did last year. It obviously contained lots of his usual top class one-liners.

Then came on the warm up act, Chris Martin. A different style of comedy to Milton, which always takes a few minutes to readjust to. However, he was very good and seems to be a very promising comedian. He had great interaction with the audience and successfully builds up his anecdotes to their humorous conclusions, with jokes ranging from lookalikes to alcohol. If you ever wonder, he is a self-confessed uglier version of Jenson Button. However, he did confess to being an idiot far too often.

Then we had the usual break, after which Milton Jones came on stage in his usual guise of crazy hair and bright, wacky shirts. Again, he did even more one-liners which were greeted with the usual groans and/or laughter. The best jokes even received a round of applause. Throughout he had the audience on side and almost everyone loved him. He did very well to not only remember all the jokes, but to remember all the little quirks of this particular show and put it into a song at the end.

The trouble is, there is an increase in heckling in Canterbury. This time, we had one who insisted on unintelligibly interrupting Milton Jones throughout. The show was probably a lot longer than intended thanks to him. However, credit where it's due, Milton did very well to continuously diffuse him eloquently. Never have I seen a comedy audience shout out for the man to shut up. And again, Milton did very well to calm the middle class audience who tutted whenever he interrupted.

Unfortunately, he somewhat ruined the show. When speaking to an usher afterwards, he explained that all comedians love banter and he was only helping Milton Jones out; I'm glad a window cleaner from Dover knows what comedians like. I hope it does not deter Milton Jones from returning for a fourth time as us Canterbury folk love having him.

So, if you have opportunity to go see him live this year, I suggest you do. I'm sure you will not regret it. If I've now seen him three times with my friend, then he must be good! However, hecklers are not invited.

Spot on review! Perhaps I'm too much of a fragile flower (and don't get out much) but I found the heckling very upsetting. The audience animosity towards the heckler overpowered the enjoyment of the show. I'm looking forward to a dvd after the tour so I enjoy the perfection of the Milton Jones delivery without the stress of moronic interruption.
